Notes on questions

why is Stella 'sort of thrilled' buy Stanley's violence

i think that stella is confused, that she is associating manliness with violence and possibly believes that this is how 'men' act.we see this through her reaction to him smashing all the light bulbs in there wedding night.Stella was believed to be 'thrilled' by the fact that he was displaying rage and frustration .

This is also shown in the conversation that has with her sister  Blanche when she calls stanley an 'animal'.Stella doesn't believe Blanches accusations and makes excuses up for him for example 'what other can i be, he's taken the radio to get it fixed .It didn't land on the pavement so only one tube was smashed' this shows us that stella is used to making assumptions for his aqctions and has told herself (possibly) that it is o.k.
Blanche throuout the conversation tries to remind Stella of the good times that they both had in belle reve .

Also, stella seems as though she is in a delirious and blinded by what is actually going ,violence .she quotes 'i am not in anything i want to get out of' this tells us that she has made herself think that this is how 'men' act and that she has to accustom  to this sort of behavour .

diary entry

dear diary

The baby's finally here, and i don't really know what feel right now, all that i know from my own two cents is that Stanley's changed, he really has and if i had the actual stones to admit it then i wouldn't be in this rut that i'm in now.and oh my sweet blanche, how will i tell her that the home isn't going to be enough for the three of house;knowing that i love stanley and all, i honestly cant choose between the two of them.I just cant, and i know how Blanche is ,she sure wont mind leaving for a while, stanley will almost certainly tell her to leave, oh what am i thinking my sweet sister Blanche wont leave my sight, she's all i got in this world , i don't even know what i was thinking when i left belle revere; such a stupid little girl i am ,leaving my one and only sister for this man...that i'm in love with.

i dont know whats going on with Blanche but i'm almost certain that she's not how she use to be ,and i can feel that feeling i get ,when things aren't going right i just know that stanley isn't right either ,oh what am i thinking, silly me ,and my mind .

scene between mitch ,steve and stanley

Its late at night, the lights on the streets grow dimmer and the sounds of the blue piano fade in and out as blanch climbs down the stairs to the three men , Stanley, Steve and Mitch all taking shots at the bar and laughing with animal like movements .

Blanche : Stanley! oh Stanley there you are, Stella wants you out on the front porch to talk, she says something about you needed to talk more about the baby.

Stanley moves about slowly, ruffling his hair with frustration and sweat from the intensely lighted room, packed with newcomers and travelers on a Friday night, Xavier night .

Mitch: your wife there, i heard her sisters  come to stay with y'all , a mighty fine woman she is, just talking with her last night, says she's a teacher too; i might just want to get to know her some more eh!

Stanley: now ,you lay of her, she's bad news , seems like a fine woman to you Mitch but i tell ya she aint got nothin less then a pack of lies to keep, she's a right seductress. and i bet she's got you all in her lunacy ,i'm tellin you, she's baaad news.

Mitch: why, this is quiet sudden, never really taken her for the....no no no no, i just wont believe it, she's such a nice women, well together and all, and i know that she aint what y'all makin her out to be , Stanley . go on home to your wife , you aint got no business tellin me what Blanche is.

Steve :come on up Stanley you know Blanche well enough to be callin her stuff like that?, go on home to your wife.

The blues music from Xavier slows into a final chorus and Stanley looks around at the two men as if they were blinded he grunts and curses under his breathe ,sweat pounds his face and he gets up grabbing the edge of a table so he doesn't loose grip.

Stella: Stanley! Stanley! come on down why don't you, its getting cold out here; stupid men  !

out at the corner, Blanche stands in toilet ,staring at the mirror,

Blanche: age really does catch up with my pretty little mind ,if i must be crazy, ahhh, time to bathe ,oh lovely bath to cleanse me of this men filled day...haha

streetcar named desire H/M

why does Blanche replace the bottle and wash the glass after having a drink?

blanch could be generally afraid of admitting to herself that she drinks way too much for her own good and so by replacing the bottle she is fooling herself and pretending as though she never drank. this could be a method of helping her cope with reality, by washing away the evidence of her destruction .

pick out the pet names for Stella and explain why she uses them
the pet names for stella are 'stella the star' , blanch uses this to tell us that she thinks of her sister as still a young child, or maybe that she feels protective over her sister and wants to keep her in the state of 'happiness' of when they were once children and names like that were appropriate for her age .

what evidence is there that Blanche is concerned about her looks?what does this say about her character?
when blanche came over to Stella apartment in New Orleans, she kept asking how she looked ,this told me that she worries about her appearance often and isn't comfortable with it .

what is blanches reaction to were Stella lives?
Blanche, at first couldn't believe that what she was seeing was Stella's apartment, she also kept asking if this really could be her home .

Lane instruction

Following my few months of leaving algernon,i'm leaving the duty the work and the struggle of not getting fired ,to you.You are officially the new substitute of hard work earned through years of observing.Algernon has a very big appetite and i must assure you that he doesn't like to be kept waiting, cucumbers sandwiches are a must when he is down ,which is rare since i am at the kitchen round the clock racking up something to keep that from happening, because i am telling you, when that happens ,he will consider moving the situation to you,and then your fired ,for a while .This job will be touch and i am not going to sugar coat the fact that it is, indeed hard work .You need to be able to deal with algernon in ways in which only a very skilled person,as i can, being an observer of algernon over the many years I've noticed that he likes to converse with  butlers, and although this is  very rare in my years of working,it isn't with him .

If he shall talk with you just make sure you do not mention anything of your past marriages,i promise ,he will not be to agreeable with yours or anyone's view on marriage, however if you avoid the topic all together you'll be just fine .I want you to also provide algernon with the keys under the mat after 12 midnight,he goes out at around that time every night,i do not know for what reason but he does and the fact that i provide him with assistance,i really don't know why but he is much appreciative in the morning i guarantee .

Another thing that you must apply algernon with is plenty of food when guests are around, this may usually occur when he is occupied with jack or Cecily,he does indeed like to provide his guest with as much food us they could hold,i could say the same for him.So with the many lists of things that you'll have to do for algernon,i'll give you this piece of advice, learnt from the many years of observing algernon, don't say anything;don't talk to him even if he requires your attention, because what might come out of your mouth...he never likes .

How the play resolves (paragraph) on meanings /explanations

In the play all characters where all together and it was as though the truth was being discovered .A resolution for all the happenings in the play was founded and this in turn brought all the characters together .At the beginning of the play, all the characters had close ties with each other, like at the very beginning Algernon and Jack seemed like the brothers the way the casually  talked to each other, and at the end of play we see that they are actually brothers .Similarly,Gwendolyn also find out some information, about jacks name really being earnest, the plays name also contributes to a lot of meaning in the last scene as all the characters actually recognise the Importance of being earnest as it links all characters together and creates understanding to what assumptions of the characters were made in the course of the play .

The characters all discover different attributes of each other ,however Lady bracknell does not change  her strong views on how people should be in victorian society. She notably says,'i dare not even suspect,`Dr chasuble,i need hardly tell you that in families of high position strange coincidences are are not suppose to occur they are hardly considered the thing. While some characters show signs of changing, like Jack, characters like Lady bracknell still hold strong views of what is and what isn't expectable in victorian society.
